GLENS ART WALK HISTORY
As we come up on the 5th year of the Glens Art Walk it is amazing to look back on our first years and how much we have learned and grown since then.
Glen Creighton’s (the Glens) unique footprint with winding streets and large lots has allowed many artists to set up home-based studios over the years. The large concentration of working artists had a group of us thinking of a way to showcase this gold mine of local artistic talent in the Glens while not tying ourselves down to regular first Friday events. The Glens Art Walk was born from the unique experiences of three friends and artists who wanted to create an event to bring together our Glens artists and the local community.
The first Art Walk had 6 home based studios and 9 artists and none of us really knew if anyone would show up to wander through our open (and unusually clean studios) much less buy any art. We managed to pull it off with about 2 months of planning, 10 open studio signs, and 200 map fliers. People showed up, they loved the event, and our artists came away energized and excited to do it again the next year, and the next, and again the next, and again this year as we head in to our 5th year. The 2019 edition of the Glens Art Walk will feature 10 open studios, more than 27 artists, dancers in the park, neighborhood sustainability, and more.
We’ve learned a lot. We’ve grown bigger and closer as an art community and we’ve supported each other through broken bones, family emergencies, growing pains from our success, and finding our true mission: to focus on the artists of the Glens and celebrating fine art and fine craft made in home based studios in the Glens. We always love a good party, so you’ll also find some great artists from the area invited in to keep things fresh and fun.
